In early November 1997, after living in the Italian town of Spello for two months, I went back home to Chicago.

Spello remembers Veterans' Day. The weather is beautiful, and I end my stay by finding the Roman aqueduct north of town and even crawling inside it.
November 4
Train trip from Spello to Brussels with a 119‑pound suitcase. Interesting travel companions, among whom a man who looks disturbingly like a statue of Apollo come to life.
