James Wilson

An American Founding Father

[image ALT: A tondo portrait, in right three-quarters, of a man in late middle age. He is somewhat plump, of florid complexion, and his hair is loose and flowing though receding from the forehead. His expression is alert with an undertow of benignity. He wears circular spectacles, and is dressed in the fashion of the late 18c. He is American patriot and founding Father James Wilson; the image serves as the icon for the section of this site devoted to him.]

James Wilson as painted by Henri Elouis, 1792. The portrait is currently (2011) in the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
