Y., 1841‑42; in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va., 1842‑43, — Carlisle Barracks, Pa., 1843‑44, — and Ft. Monroe, Va., 1844‑45; in Military Occupation of Texas, 1845‑46; in the War with Mexico, 1846, being engaged in the Battle of Palo Alto, May 8, 1846, — and Battle of Resaca-de‑la‑Palma, May 9, 1846; on Recruiting service, 1846‑47; in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va., (First Lieut., 4th Artillery, June 18, 1846) 1847; in the War with Mexico, 1847‑48, as Acting Asst. Adjutant-General of the Department of Vera Cruz, Dec. 16‑24, 1847, — and of the Brigade moving on Orizaba, Mex., Jan. 31 to June 8, 1848; in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va., 1848, — and Ft. Pike, La., 1849; and in Florida Hostilities against the Seminole Indians, 1849‑50. Resigned, Apr. 30, 1850. Civil History. — Hardware Merchant, Pittsburg, Pa., 1850‑56. Farmer, Prince William County, Va., 1856‑57. Draughtsman in Construction Bureau, U. S. Treasury Department, Washington, D. C., 1857‑60. Assistant Examiner, U. S. Patent Office, Washington, D. C., 1860‑61; and Principal Examiner, 1861‑65. Solicitor of American and Foreign Patents, at Washington, D. C., and Attorney before the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia, 1865‑66.º Colonel, District of Columbia Militia, 1861‑66. Solicitor of American and Foreign Patents, at Washington, D.
