Born Jan. 18, 1820. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1838, to July 1, 1842, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 1st Dragoons, July 1, 1842. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Gibson, I. T., 1842‑43, — in escorting Santa Fé Traders, 1843, — and Ft. Gibson, I. T., 1843‑44, 1844‑45. Resigned, Mar. 31, 1845. Civil History. — Merchant, Baltimore, Md., 1845‑46. Farmer, Leesburg, Va., 1847‑61. Justice of the Peace, Loudoun County, Va., 1849‑52. State Director, Office of Discount and Deposit of the Bank of the Valley, Leesburg, Va., 1859‑61. Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.a Civil History. — Farmer, Leesburg, Va., 1866‑87. Died, July 17, 1887, at Leesburg, Va.: Aged 68. Buried, Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA. |
a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he was commissioned a Colonel in 1861, and commanded the 19th Virginia Infantry, 5th Brigade, 1st Corps, Army of the Potomac.
