Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1847, to July 1, 1851, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Bvt. Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, July 1, 1851.

Served: in garrison at Key West, Fla., 1851‑52; at the Military

(Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, Sep. 4, 1851)

Academy, 1852‑59, as Asst. Professor of Chemistry, Mineralogy, and

(First Lieut., 1st Artillery, Nov. 4, 1854)

Geology, Dec. 1, 1852, to Sep. 10, 1855,​a — and Principal Asst. Professor, Sep. 10, 1855, to Aug. 31, 1859; on leave of absence in Europe, 1859‑60; on Board to test the merits of James and Schenkle's Rifled Cannon, 1860; and on leave of absence in Europe, 1860‑61.

Resigned, Feb. 25, 1861.

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.​b

Buried, Peacedale Cemetery, Highland Falls, NY.
