Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1849, to July 1, 1853, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Infantry, July 1, 1853. Served: in garrison at Newport Barracks, Ky., 1853; and on leave of absence, 1853‑54. Resigned, Jan. 30, 1854. Civil History. — Merchant, New York city, 1854‑61. Military History. — Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑63: in command of Regiment, Nov., 1861, to May, 1862, in (Major, 1st West Virginia Cavalry, Nov. 11, 1861) Western Virginia; in the Defenses of Washington, D. C., and about Centreville, Va., covering the approaches to the Capital, June, 1862, to June, 1863; and in the Pennsylvania Campaign, June to Oct., 1863. Honorably Discharged (sick), Oct. 26, 1863. Civil History. — Unknown, nothing authentic having been received. Died, Dec. 26, 1871, at Newark, N. J.: Aged 44. |
