Served: in garrison at Ft. Ontario, N. Y., 1856‑57; on frontier duty at Ft. Mackinac, Mich., 1857, — Ft. Snelling, Min., 1857, — and Ft. Leavenworth, quelling Kansas Disturbances, 1857‑58, 1858‑59; at the Military Academy as Asst. Professor of Geography, History, and Ethics, Aug. 29 to Oct. 4, 1859; on frontier duty at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., 1859‑60; on leave of absence, 1860; and on frontier duty at Ft. Brown, Tex., 1860‑61.

Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑62: in Defense
