(Second Lieut., 6th Infantry, Sep. 16, 1856)

the Commissioner for running the Southern Boundary of Kansas, 1857, — quelling Kansas Disturbances, 1857‑58, — Utah Expedition, 1858, — March to California, 1858, — Benicia, Cal., 1858, — Ft. Yuma, Cal., 1859, — Ft. Mojave, N. M., 1859‑60, — and Benicia, Cal., 1860‑61.

Resigned, Apr. 8, 1861.

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States,​a and was

Killed, Sep. 14, 1862, at the Battle of South Mountain, Md.: Aged 27.


Thayer's Note:

a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he held the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 4th Alabama Infantry, Whiting's Brigade, Hood's Division, Army of Northern Virginia.
