Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1853, to July 1, 1857, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Infantry, July 1, 1857. Second Lieut., 4th Infantry, Oct. 22, 1857. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Steilacoom, Wash., 1858‑59, — and San Juan Island, Wash., 1859‑60, — and Ft. Chehalis, Wash., 1860‑61. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑63: on Recruiting (First Lieut., 17th Infantry, May 14, 1861) service, Sep. 6 to Oct. 9, 1861; as Adjutant, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry, Oct. 21‑24, 1861; in command of Company at Ft. Preble, Me., (Captain, 17th Infantry, Oct. 24, 1861) p697 Dec. 15, 1861, to Mar., 1862; absent sick, Mar. 30, 1862, to June 5, 1863; as Asst. Inspector of the Provost Marshal General's Department for the State of Vermont, June 5 to Oct. 10, 1863; and on Recruiting service, Oct. 10, 1863, to Nov. 28, 1863. •Wholly Retired, Dec. 8, 1863. Died Aug. 16, 1868, at Exeter, N. H.: Aged 33. |
