Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑66: in command of Louisville Ordnance Depot, Ky., Nov. 21, 1861, to Oct. 24, 1862; as Chief of Ordnance in Major-General
(Bvt. Captain, Dec. 31, 1862,
of the Ohio, and in command of the Cincinnati Ordnance Depot, Feb. 1 to July, 1863; on Foundry duty at Cold Spring, N. Y., July to (Captain, Ordnance, Mar. 3, 1863) Oct., 1863; and in command of Ft. Monroe Arsenal, Va., Oct. 21, 1863, to June 14, 1865, being Chief of Ordnance, Department of Virginia and North Carolina, Jan. 1, 1864, to June 14, 1865. Bvt. Major, Mar. 13, 1865, for Faithful and Meritorious Services in the Ordnance Department. Served: as Inspector of Powder, June 14, 1865, to Oct. 20, 1866; as Asst. Ordnance Officer at Allegheny Arsenal, Pa., Oct. 20, 1866, to June 4, 1867, — and at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., June 4, 1867, to July 7, 1869; (Major, Ordnance, Dec. 15, 1867) as Instructor of Ordnance and Gunnery at the Military Academy, Aug. 2, 1869, to Nov. 17, 1870.
