Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1855, to July 1, 1860, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Bvt. Second Lieut. of Artillery, July 1, 1860.

Served: in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va., 1860‑61.

Second Lieut., 4th Artillery, Jan. 1, 1861.

Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861: in Defense of Washington, D. C., Mar.‑Apr., 1861, — and of Ft. Pickens, Fla., Apr.‑May, 1861.

Dismissed, June 3, 1861,
"Having Tendered his Resignation when in the Face of the Rebels."

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States,​a and was

Killed, July 3, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa.: Aged 27.

Buried, Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
