Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑64: at the Military Academy as Asst. Instructor of Infantry Tactics, July 22, 1861, to June 11, 1862; in the Virginia Peninsular Campaign (Army of the Potomac), June 23‑28, 1862, being engaged in the Battle of Gaines's Mill, June 27, 1862, where he was severely wounded; on sick leave of absence, disabled by wound, June 28 to Nov. 28, 1862; in the Rappahannock
