Rice, Dak., June, (Transferred to 31st Infantry, Sep. 21, 1866) 1866, to May, 1867; as Judge Advocate of the Department of Dakota, May, 1867, to Oct., 1868; on Signal Duty, in Chief Signal Office, Washington, D. C., to Feb. 11, 1869; on leave of absence, and awaiting orders, to Nov. 5, 1869; as Professor of Military Science, at Missouri State (Unassigned, Nov. 29, 1869) University, to Nov. 29, 1869; and awaiting orders, to July 15, 1870. a I am not absolutely certain the linked grave is Lt. O'Toole's, but the concourse of the name, date of death, and place of burial make it very likely. Only the date of birth is slightly off: if we follow the Register — which, however, is often in error as to the age at death — his birthdate would fall in 1844 or 1845, rather than 1842 as on this man's tombstone.
