a Lt. Casey's full name is from Heitman's Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army.
b He was shot in the head during a drill, accidentally according to the Register of Deaths in the Regular Army. The man got no worse than he deserved: the comment seems callous, until you read the obituary of his classmate Orsemus Boyd.
