and on frontier duty at Ft. Stevens, Or., Sep. 30, 1873, to Apr. 19, 1877.

Drowned, Apr. 19, 1877,
in Young's Bay, near Astoria, Or.: Aged 31.

Buried, Fort Stevens Cemetery, Warrenton, OR.


Thayer's Note:

a Lt. Knapp's full name is from List of Cadets admitted into the United States Military Academy, West Point, N. Y., from its Origin till September 1, 1886 (G. P. O., Washington, DC, 1887). His modern tombstone — see the burial link above — spells his first name Joshau, and gives his death date as April 9.
