Second Lieut., 3d Artillery, July 1, 1824. Served: on Topographical duty, July 14, 1824, to Mar. 6, 1828; in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), 1828; on Topographical duty, Nov. 25, 1828, to Aug. 5, 1829; on Regimental Staff duty, 1829‑30; in garrison at Ft. Independence, Mas., 1830‑32, — Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), 1832; and on the "Black Hawk Expedition," 1832, but not at the seat of war.a Died, Nov. 2, 1832, at Staunton, Va.: Aged 26. |

a The phrase "but not at (the) seat of war" occurs frequently in the Register in connection with the Black Hawk War; the explanation in most cases is the one given in the biographical sketch of James Monroe (q.v.).
