Paul O. Hébert: Louisiana engineer, fought in the Mexican War; as a Confederate general, his war service was spent defending his home state.

Charles P. Kingsbury: Ordnance officer; fought in the Mexican War and for the Union in the War between the States.

John McNutt: Ordnance officer, commanded various arsenals over a thirty-year career.

William P. Jones: Killed in a riding accident a year after graduating.

William Gilham: Artilleryman, taught at the Military Academy and fought in the Mexican War, resigning after six years and taught at the Virginia Military Institute, where he was Commandant of Cadets and wrote an influential manual of instruction; in the War between the States, fought for the Confederacy.

William T. Sherman: Thirteen years of miscellaneous garrisons followed by an even more miscellaneous set of civilian occupations, but came into his own in the War between the States, as the Union general who burned his way across Georgia and to the sea; after the war, fifteen years as the commanding general of the Armies of the United States.

Job R. H. Lancaster: Killed by lightning while scouting in the Second Seminole War, a year after graduating.

William H. Churchill: Fought in the Mexican War; died in Texas seven years after graduating.

Stewart Van Vliet: Fought in the Second Seminole War and against Indians on the western frontier; during the War between the States, served the Union as a high-level quartermaster.

John P. McCown: Artilleryman, fought in the Mexican War and against Indians on the western frontier, served in the Third Seminole War, and fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States.

Francis N. Clarke: Artilleryman, taught eleven years at the Military Academy, served on the western frontier and fought for the Union in the War between the States.

George H. Thomas: One of the great Union generals of the War between the States, the Rock of Chickamauga.

Richard S. Ewell: Twenty years in the Dragoons, fighting in the Mexican War and against Apaches in New Mexico; a prominent but not so success­ful Confederate general.

James G. Martin: Artilleryman, fought in the Mexican War; a Confederate general.

George W. Getty: Artilleryman, fought in the Mexican War; fought for the Union in the War between the States, almost entirely in Virginia.

Horace B. Field: Fought in the Mexican War; drowned in the wreck of the San Francisco.

Henry Whiting: Resigned after five years of western garrisons, and was a teacher and merchant until he died, except for a year and a half fighting for the Union in the War between the States.

William Hays: Artilleryman, fought in the Mexican War and for the Union in the War between the States.

Fowler Hamilton: Served in the Second Seminole War and fought in the Mexican War, then posted to various garrisons in Texas, where he died eleven years after graduating.

Bryant P. Tilden: Fought in the Mexican War; resigned within eight years and was a civil engineer.

Thaddeus Higgins: Served on the western frontier; killed in a boiler explosion five years after graduating.

Oscar F. Winship: Cavalry­man; served in the Second Seminole War and fought in the Mexican War.

Bushrod R. Johnson: Served in the Second Seminole War, fought in the Mexican War and was forced to resign; Confederate general.

Charles H. Humber: Infantry­man, served in the Second Seminole War, and fought in the Mexican War; posted to various western garrisons, and died in Arkansas relatively young.

James N. Caldwell: Twenty years on the western frontier, much of it in Texas; fought for the Union in the War between the States.

John W. T. Gardiner: Commissioned a Dragoon, he served on the Western frontier and in Mexico until a shipwreck put an end to his health; the rest of his nearly thirty-year career was in desk jobs.

Reuben P. Campbell: Twenty years in the Dragoons, and fought gallantly in the Mexican War, but half that time he was sick; he was killed fighting for the Confederacy.

Pinckney Lugenbeel: Infantry­man, served in the Second Seminole War, fought in the Mexican War, frontier duty in Texas and the Pacific Northwest with some combat; served the Union during the War between the States, mostly in a staff capacity.

Henry Wardwell: Died a year after graduating.

William Robertson: Resigned after three years; a Louisiana planter.

William Steele: Cavalry­man, served in the Second Seminole War, fought in the Mexican War and against Indians in nearly twenty years on the western frontier; in the War between the States, a Confederate commander.

Robert P. Maclay: Infantry­man, served in the Second Seminole War, fought in the Mexican War, with most of his career in Texas; a Confederate general and a Louisiana planter.

Oliver L. Shepherd: Infantry­man, served in the Second Seminole War and fought in the Mexican War, against Navajo and Apaches, and for the Union in the War between the States; court-martialed and found guilty of having embezzled money from a fund raised among the Army to commemorate battle dead.

Henry D. Wallen: A career spent in frontier duty, including 20 years in the territories and States of the West and Pacific coast.

Stephen D. Carpenter: Infantry­man, served in the Second Seminole War and fought in the Mexican War, against Comanche in Texas, and against Confederates in the War between the States, in which he was killed.

Joseph L. Folsom: Served in the Second Seminole War and the Mexican War; taught at the Military Academy, and died fairly young.

William G. Torrey: Four years in the Army, and went AWOL and was dropped; died two years later.

Daniel G. Rogers: Cavalry­man, served in Second Seminole War and fought in the Mexican War, where he died eight years after graduating.

William B. Johns: Served in the Second Seminole War, and fought in the Mexican War and against the Navajo in New Mexico, but would not fight against fellow Americans in the Confederacy; his thirty-year civilian career after his resignation is not recorded.

Douglass S. Irwin: Fought in the Second Seminole War and in the Mexican War, where he was killed in street fighting six years after graduating.

Thomas Jordan: Served in the Seminole Wars and in the Mexican War; with an interesting career in the Confederate army and, after the war, in Cuba. [+ AOG]

John D. Bacon: Served on the western frontier and fought in the Mexican War, where he died of wounds, seven years after graduating.
