Guardian Angel Church Cemetery

[image ALT: A grassy expanse somewhat larger than an American football field. In the foreground, low stone plaques are inset in the earth; toward the back, taller tombs, including an obelisk about 8 meters tall. It is a view of the cemetery of Guardian Angel Croatian Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois (midwestern United States).]

About four-fifths of the cemetery:
we're looking W, with the church behind us and Devon Avenue to our right.

This typical American cemetery has expanded over time since it was established in the late 19c, stretching toward us: in the background then, the older style of funerary monuments, tall and sometimes even ornate; near us, the low slabs now preferred.

Although with the changing demographics of my neighborhood, the church is now in the care of a Croatian parish, for most of her history she was dedicated to St. Henry, the holy 10c duke of Bavaria; and the cemetery bears witness to her German heritage.

Every cemetery has its share of soldiers; here then is a sampler of servicemen from various wars.
