The Roman Amphitheatre of Assisium

Here it is: above ground, at least, nothing is left but the shape,
most of the stone having been quarried out in the Middle Ages.

I need to go back to Umbria just a bit more often: this page told the story pretty well for the casual visitor — until 2010, when the Nun Hotel and Spa opened in the restored former convent of Santa Caterina: and important, interesting, handsome remains of the amphitheatre were found during the renovation, although you'll have to take a bath to see them; see Rebecca Winke's article with full details and a photograph.
