The Abbey Church of S. Michele di Limigiano

The exterior of the church gives a pretty clear history of itself, from its foundation in the 11c, maybe even using Roman material, thru several phases of construction, repair, and maintenance in the Middle Ages and on to our own time.

The interior of S. Michele, sadly, is an illustration of the need for this ongoing repair and maintenance: restored in 1947, the church has since suffered damage that is causing its frescoes to deteriorate once again.
