S. Francesco di Giano

[image ALT: missingALT. It is a three-quarters view of the church of S. Francesco in Giano dell' Umbria, Umbria (central Italy).]

The façade of S. Francesco
as I saw it in the spring of 2004.

The 14c church of S. Francesco, just outside the inhabited core of Giano to the E of town before the hill drops off to the valley of the Clitunno, was of course firmly closed to visitors on the day I walked thru town: so you'll have no photos of the interior.

When I go back to the area, the restoration will probably be finished; that interior includes 14c frescoes that the TCI Guide to Umbria calls "important": among which a Crucifixion and a Death of the Virgin probably attributable to Giovanni da Corraduccio. Stay tuned.
