The Exterior of the Church: Scrapbook in Stone

Steps. Not pretty, not very neat, but old: several large chunks of telltale travertine; there must once have been a Roman building somewhere around here.

Not to leave a single period out of our church, this little side door, with its rather sharp ogive, dates to somewhere around the early 14c.

Neglected and upside-down, a fragment of an inscription dated 1574. (Rather than stand on your head to read it, here it is again, right-side up.)

Almost two hundred years later, the record of a restoration: some private money from P · AL · R, and the charitable donations of the people.
