Leading off the frescoes along the S wall of this single-nave church,
|
. . . followed by a Madonna del Rosario (17c). . . . |
. . . and a Pope with a halo,
|
A 17c canvas of the Virgin of Carmel also apparently hangs on the S wall; I'm not big on the 17c, and don't so much as remember seeing it.
Along the N side of the church,
|
. . . then a niche with a 15c wooden statue of the Assumption of the Virgin, stolen in 1982: I don't know whether what we see here is the original, or, it seems more likely to me, a copy. Theft from churches is a very serious problem thruout Italy. The saints on either side of the niche, both of them monks, have resisted identification. |
But the best item in the church, to my mind at least, deserves its own (thoroughly pagan) page. It's in the niche at the end of the N aisle:
1 For a general view of the interior, in case you missed it, see the Churches of Ficulle orientation page.
