XXVIII

Nox mihi dat nomen primo de tempore noctis;
Pluma mihi non est, cum sit mihi pinna volantis;
Sed resto in tenebris nec me committo diebus.

Peck:

From night my name, the early hours of night.
No plumage have I, yet I've wings for flight,
I stay in darkness, for I dread the light.

Ohl:

Night gives me my name from night's early hours. No plumage have I, though I do have the wings of a bird; but I return in darkness and do not expose myself to the daylight.
