XXXVIII

A fluvio dicor, fluvius vel dicitur ex me;
Iuncta quesum vento, quosum velocior ipso;
Et mihi dat ventus natos nec quaero maritum.

Peck:

I bear a river's name or else my name bears he,
United to the winds, I can more swiftly flee;
The wind, too, gives me sons, no other mate for me.

Ohl:

I am named from a river, or else the river is named from me. Yoked to the wind am I, who am swifter than the very wind; and the wind gives me sons, I seek not a mate.
