Horus

An Egyptian carving of an equestrian Horus killing a crocodile

The sandstone bas-relief of Horus in combat with Typhon or Set is approximately 18 inches tall. Horus is, as usual, represented with the head of the hawk. Unusually, he is on a horse. He also wears a Roman military costume: the paludamentum or military cloak is attached at the right shoulder and falls to a point over his left thigh; it hides a coat of mail or cuirass. He is barefoot (as is also usually the case with early representations of St. George)
