Return to Roman Ruins in Britain
Hardknott Castle (Mediobogdum) is one of the best preserved forts in Roman Britain and has its finest surviving parade ground. Built at the beginning of the second century AD, it was garrisoned by an auxiliary cohort from Dalmatia (Yugoslavia).
Perhaps no other Roman site conveys such remoteness and wild isolation.
