Domus Augustiana

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The palace built by Domitian on the Palatine Hill was known as the Domus Augustiana or the Palatium. The lower peristyle and the stadium have been highlighted.

 

Although the word originally applied to the palace as a whole, the lower story of which overlooked the courtyard (peristyle) pictured above, and a sunken garden in the form of a stadium below.

The small oval track in the background was built by Theodoric in the sixth century.
