The text that follows is reproduced from (the report of the) Fiftieth Annual Reunion of the Association of the Graduates of the United States Military Academy, June 10th, 1919.

 p37  James Persons Flewellen
No. 1463. Class of 1850.
Died April 21, 1909, at Charlottesville, Va., aged 81.

Very little is known of the civil history of this graduate after his resignation, November 2nd, 1854. He was born in and entered the Military Academy from the State of Georgia. He was graduated and promoted to Second Lieutenant of Artillery, July 1, 1850, and from the date of graduation until his resignation he was on duty at Castle Pinckney, S. C., Fort Moultrie, S. C., Fort McHenry, Md., and Fort Monroe, Va. After resigning from the army he took up farming near Macon, Georgia, and in 1861 joined the Rebellion against the United States. In later years he resided in Texas, and as far as known a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Sloan, of Brenham, Texas, survives him.
