Served: at the Cavalry School for Practice, at Carlisle, Pa., 1840; in the Florida War, 1840‑41; in garrison at Baton Rouge, La., 1841, — and at Ft. Jesup, La., 1841‑42; on Recruiting service, 1842; on frontier duty at Ft. Jesup, La., 1842‑44; in garrison at Jefferson Barracks, Mo.,

(First Lieut., 2d Dragoons, Aug. 31, 1843)

1844‑45; in Military Occupation of Texas, 1845‑46; in the War with Mexico, 1846‑47, being engaged in the Battle of Palo Alto, May 8,

(Major, 10th Infantry, Apr. 9, 1847)

1846, — and Battle of Resaca-de‑la‑Palma, May 9, 1846; and in garrison

(Lieut.‑Colonel, 16th Infantry, May 23, 1848)
