Henry Macomb Whiting Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1838, to July 1, 1842, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Monroe, Va., 1842‑44, 1845; in Military Occupation of Texas, 1845‑46; in garrison at Carlisle Barracks, Pa., 1846; in the War with Mexico, 1846‑48, being engaged in the Battle of

(First Lieut., 4th Artillery, Mar. 3, 1847) Buena Vista, Feb. 22‑23, 1847; in garrison at Ft. Pickens, Fla., 1849, — Baton Rouge, La., 1849‑50, — and Ft. Brown, Tex., 1850‑52; on Recruiting service, 1853; and in garrison at Ft. Brown, Tex., 1853. Died, Oct. 8, 1853, at Ft. Brown, Tex.: Aged 32. Buried, Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit, MI. |
