Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1838, to July 1, 1842, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., 3d Artillery, July 1, 1842. Served: in garrison at Ft. McHenry, Md., 1842‑43, — and Ft. Johnston, N. C., 1843; at the Military Academy, as Asst. Professor of Geography, History, and Ethics, Aug. 30, 1843, to Aug. 31, 1844; in garrison (Second Lieut., 3d Artillery, Nov. 19, 1843) at Savannah, Ga., 1844‑45, — and Ft. Marion, Fla., 1845‑46; on Recruiting (First Lieut., 3d Artillery, Oct. 27, 1846) service, 1846; in garrison at Ft. Moultrie, S. C., 1846‑47; and in the War with Mexico, 1847, being engaged in the Battle of Cerro Gordo, Apr. 17‑18, 1847, — Skirmish of Amazoque, May 14, 1847, — Capture of San Antonio, Aug. 20, 1847, — Battle of Molino del Rey, Sep. 8, 1847, p129 — Storming of Chapultepec, Sep. 13, 1847, — and Assault and Capture of the City of Mexico, Sep. 13‑14, 1847. Resigned, Dec. 4, 1847. Civil History. — Farmer, Near Wilmington, N. C., 1848‑52. Assistant Examiner of Patents, Washington, D. C., Apr. 25, 1852, to May 11, 1854. Attorney in Patent Cases, 1854‑57. Died, Jan. 26, 1857, at Jacksonville, Fla.: Aged 36. |
