Born Jan. 30, 1823, New London, CT. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1839, to July 1, 1843, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., Top. Engineers, July 1, 1843. Transferred to Ordnance, July 20, 1843. Served: as Assistant Ordnance Officer at Watervliet Arsenal, N. Y., 1843‑44; at the Military Academy as Asst. Professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy, Sep. 1, 1844, to Aug. 30, 1845; as Asst. Ordnance Officer at Watervliet Arsenal, N. Y., 1845‑46; at the Military Academy as Principal Asst. Professor of Geography, History, and (Second Lieut., Ordnance, Mar. 3, 1847) Ethics, Aug. 30, 1846, to Dec. 10, 1849; and as Asst. Ordnance Officer (First Lieut., Ordnance, July 10, 1851) at Washington Arsenal, D. C., 1850‑51, — and at Allegheny Arsenal, Pa., 1851. Resigned, Oct. 31, 1851. Civil History. — Roman Catholic Priest, since Oct. 31, 1855. Member of the Congregation of Redemptorists, 1852‑59, — and of Paulists, since 1859. Vol. IV Civil History. — Superior General of the Congregation of Paulists, New York City, since Sept. 1897. — Author of Guide for Catholic Young Women, etc. Vol. V Civil History. — Superior General of the Congregation of Paulists, New York City, since Sept. 1897.
