Washita, I. T., 1848‑50, 1851; as Aide-de‑Camp to Bvt. Brig.‑General Belknap, May 20 to Oct. 10, 1851, — and Ft. Belknap, Tex., 1851‑52; on Recruiting service, 1852‑54; on frontier duty at Ft. McIntosh, Tex., 1854‑55, — as Adjutant, 5th Infantry, May 1 to Oct. 18, 1855, — Ringgold Barracks, Tex., 1855, — and (Captain, 5th Infantry, Oct. 18, 1855) Ft. McIntosh, Tex., 1855‑56; in Florida Hostilities against the Seminole Indians, 1856‑57; in garrison at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., 1857; and on frontier duty on Utah Expedition, 1857‑60, — on March to New Mexico, 1860, — at Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1860, — Ft. Fauntleroy, N. M., 1860, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1860‑61, — Navajo Expedition, 1861, — and Ft. Fauntleroy, N. M., 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑65: in Defense of Ft. Craig, N. M., Aug. 14, 1861, to Jan. 31, 1862; in command of Regiment in Operations in New Mexico, Jan. 31 to Sep. 23, 1863, being engaged in the Combat of Valverde, N. M., Feb. 21, 1862, — Action of Pigeon's Ranch, Mar. 28, 1862, — Action of Peralta, Apr. 14, 1862, — at Ft. Craig, N. M., Mar. 1‑31, 1862, — Scouting, Mar. 31 to May, 1862, — Ft. Craig, N. M., May to Aug. 14, 1862, — Belen, N. M., Aug. 31 to Sep. 29, 1862, — and Ft. Marcy, N. M., 1862, to Sep. 23, 1863; as Superintendent (Major, 13th Infantry, July 1, 1863) of Recruiting Service and Disbursing Officer at Santa Fé, N. M., Sep., 1863, to Apr. 25, 1864; and in Operations in New Mexico, Apr. 25, (Colonel, 1st New Mexico Volunteers, Apr. 25, 1864) 1864, to Feb. 2, 1865. Died, Feb. 2, 1865, at Ft. Union, N.
