Thayer's Notes:

a See any of his pages at Find-a‑Grave for details on the fight that cost Lt. Nininger his life, and for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

[decorative delimiter]

b Find-a‑Grave lists three contending gravesites, two of which are marked there as cenotaphs, and the one I link to above as "Former burial location". Notwithstanding, it appears that Lt. Nininger's remains still do lie in Abucay, where a recent visitor was guided by the parish priest to a group of four unmarked graves and told that one of them may be the officer's. If you have better or more recent information, please do let me know.
