Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1843, to July 1, 1847, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., 4th Artillery, July 1, 1847. Served: in the War with Mexico, 1847‑48, near Saltillo; as Acting Asst. Adjutant-General of the Department of New Mexico, Oct., 1848, (Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, Aug. 19, 1847) to Oct. 23, 1849; in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1850; in Florida Hostilities against the Seminole Indians, 1850‑51, 1852‑53; as Quartermaster, (First Lieut., 1st Artillery, Apr. 1, 1850, to May 14, 1861) 1st Artillery, Oct. 9, 1852, to June 18, 1856, — at Pensacola, Fla., 1854, — and Ft. Monroe, Va., 1854‑56, — and constructing a Road from (Capt., Staff — Asst. Quartermaster, June 18, 1856) Omaha, Kan.,º to Ft. Kearny, Neb., 1856‑57; and on Quartermaster duty in the Utah Expedition, 1857‑58, — at Washington, D. C., 1859, — purchasing corn in the West, 1859, — at Nebraska City, 1859, — and Atchison, Kan., 1860. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑64: as Chief Quartermaster of the Department of the Ohio, May 1, 1861, to Oct. 18, 1862; in charge of Clothing Depot, at Cincinnati, O., Oct. 18, 1862, to May 1, 1863; and as Chief Quartermaster of the Department of the Ohio, May 1, 1863, to Mar. 31, 1864. Resigned, Mar. 31, 1864. Civil History. — Commission Agent at Cincinnati, O., for Quartermaster's supplies for the Army, 1864‑65. Commission Merchant, St. Louis, Mo., 1866‑71. Died, Mar. 2, 1872, at St. Louis, Mo.: Aged 50. Buried, Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. |
