Edward Benjamin Bryan Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1844, to July 1, 1848, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, July 1, 1848. On authorized graduation leave of absence, July 1 to Oct. 5, 1848. Resigned, Oct. 5, 1848. Civil History. — Civil Engineer, Architect, and Surveyor, Charleston, S. C., 1848‑53. Cotton Planter, St. John's Colleton, S. C., 1853‑61. Captain, South Carolina Militia, 1849‑50, — Major, 1854‑58, — and Lieut.‑ p356 Colonel, Staff (Aide-de‑Camp to Governor Adams, of South Carolina), 1854‑56. Member of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, 1854‑58, — and of the Senate, 1858‑61. Member of Commission to Revise the Militia Laws of the State of South Carolina, 1858. Died, Apr. 28, 1861, at St. John's Island, S. C.: Aged 35. Buried, St. John's Episcopal Parish Cemetery, St. John's Island, SC. |
