M.,º 1852, — Ft. Union, N. M., 1852, — Ft. Massachusetts, N. M., 1852‑53, — Taos, N. M., 1853, — Cantonment Burgwin, N. M., (Second Lieut., 1st Dragoons, Feb. 1, 1853) 1853‑55, — Ft. Union, N. M., 1855‑56; at the Cavalry School for (First Lieut., 1st Dragoons, Mar. 3, 1855) Practice, Carlisle, Pa., 1856‑58; and on frontier duty at Ft. Walla Walla, Wash., 1858‑59, — March to Salt Lake Valley, Utah, 1859, — Ft. Walla Walla, Wash., 1859, — Ft. Dalles, Or., 1859‑60, — Oregon Hostilities, 1860, — and Ft. Dalles, Or., 1860‑61. As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he held the rank of Colonel in 1862, and commanded the 3d Virginia Cavalry, Fitzhugh Lee's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia.
