Served: in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1850; on frontier duty, escorting Mexican Boundary Commission to New Mexico, via San Antonio and Ft. Bliss, Tex., 1850‑51, — Ft. Conrad, N. M., 1851‑52, — Scouting, (Second Lieut., 3d Infantry, Mar. 5, 1851) 1852, — Camp Vigilance, N. M., 1852, — Ft. Conrad, N. M., 1852‑53, — Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., 1853, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1853‑55, — Albuquerque, N. M., 1855‑56, — Scouting, 1856, being engaged against (First Lieut., 3d Infantry, Dec. 31, 1856) Apache Indians, in a Skirmish on the Sierra del Almagre, N. M., Mar., 1856, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1856‑57, — Gila Expedition, 1857, being engaged p430 against Mogollon Indians in Skirmishes at the Cañon de los Muertos Carneros, N. M., May 24 and June 27, 1857, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1857, — and Ft. Fillmore, N. M., 1857‑58; on Recruiting service, 1858‑60; and on frontier duty at Ringgold Barracks, Tex., 1860‑61, — and Ft. Brown, Tex., 1861. Captain, 3d Infantry, May 14, 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑63: on Mustering duty at Denver, Col., Oct. 1, 1861, to June 16, 1863; and with his regiment in the field, June 16 to Oct. 20, 1863.
