Robert Brenham Thomas: Born Nov. 20, 1826. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1848, to July 1, 1852, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., 2d Artillery, July 1, 1852. Served: in Florida Hostilities against the Seminole Indians, 1852‑54; (Second Lieut., 2d Artillery, Sep. 18, 1852) in garrison at Baton Rouge, La., 1854; on frontier duty at Ft. Washita, (First Lieut., 2d Artillery, Nov. 25, 1854) I. T., 1854‑55; and in Florida Hostilities against the Seminole Indians, 1855‑56. Resigned, Jan. 31, 1856. Civil History. — Unknown. Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.a Civil History. — Clerk in the New Orleans (La.) National Bank, 18–––. General Agent of Cedar Key, Tampa, and Key West Steamship Company, 18–––. Vol. IV Civil History. — Unknown. Vol. V Civil History. — Inspector of Customs from 1888 to Jan., 1901. a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record. It seems to have been pretty low-key: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he was appointed Major in Feb., 1862, and was Assistant Adjutant-General to Brigadier-General Finnegan, commanding the District of Florida. The Find-a‑Grave page linked above has different elements of his career altogether, and his (modern) tombstone, seen there, has Brig.‑General 5th Fla. Brigade Fla. Militia.
