John Randolph Chambliss: Born Jan. 23, 1833.

Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1849, to July 1, 1853, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Bvt. Second Lieut., Mounted Rifle­men, July 1, 1853.

Served: at the Cavalry School for Practice, Carlisle, Pa., 1853‑54.

Resigned, Mar. 4, 1854.

Civil History. — Planter, Hicksford, Va., 1854‑61. Major Staff (Aide-de‑Camp to the Governor of Virginia), 1856‑61, — Colonel, Virginia Militia, 1858‑61, — and Major, Staff (Brigade Inspector), 1859‑61.

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.​a

Killed, Aug. 16, 1864, at Deep Bottom, Va.: Aged 31.

Buried, Chambliss Family Cemetery, Emporia, VA.
