Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1852, to July 1, 1856, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Second Lieut., 3d Artillery, July 1, 1856. Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Miller, Cal., 1856‑57, — Ft. Yuma, Cal., 1857‑58, — commanding escort of Colorado Exploring Expedition, 1858‑59, — Ft. Yuma, Cal., 1859, — Beall's Crossing, 1859, — and San Francisco, Cal., 1859; in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1859, — and (First Lieut., 3d Artillery, Dec. 31, 1859) Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), 1859; on Harper's Ferry Expedition to Suppress John Brown's Raid, 1859; in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), 1859‑60; on leave of absence, 1860; in conducting Recruits to Texas, 1860; in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1860; and on frontier duty at Ft. Vancouver, Wash., 1860‑61. Died, May 17, 1861, at Benicia, Cal.: Aged 28. Buried, Benicia Arsenal Post Cemetery, Benicia, CA.a |
