Born Oct. 29, 1832. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1852, to July 1, 1856, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Artillery, July 1, 1856. Served: in garrison at Ft. Ontario, N. Y., 1856; in Florida Hostilities (Second Lieut., 4th Artillery, Oct. 31, 1856) against the Seminole Indians, 1856‑57; on frontier duty at Ft. Leavenworth, quelling Kansas Disturbances, 1857‑58, and Platte Bridge, Kan., 1858; and in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1859, — and Ft. Monroe, Va. (Artillery School for Practice), 1859‑61. First Lieut., 4th Artillery, Feb. 1, 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑66: in garrison at Ft. Monroe, Va., 1861‑62; in the Mississippi Campaign (Army of the (Captain, 4th Artillery, Nov. 29, 1861)
