Served: on frontier duty at Ft. Buchanan, N. M., 1857, — Utah Expedition,

(Second Lieut., 2d Dragoons, Feb. 2, 1857)

(First Lieut., 2d Dragoons, Apr. 25, 1861)

1857‑59, — and Ft. Laramie, Dak., 1860‑61.

Resigned, June 1, 1861.

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.​a

Civil History. — Petroleum Producer, 1866‑83. Civil Engineer in the service of the United States, 1879 and 1882.

Died, May 27, 1883, at Parkersburg, W. Va.: Aged 50.


Thayer's Note:

a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he served in the 14th Virginia Cavalry in the Army of Northern Virginia, reaching the rank of Major.
