Served: as Asst. Top. Engineer on the Survey of the Northern Lakes, Nov. 12, 1857, to Feb. 14, 1861; and on leave of absence, Feb. 14 to Apr. 27, 1861.

Resigned, Apr. 27, 1861.

Civil History. — Farmer, West Virginia, 1866‑67. Civil Engineer since 1867, being employed in the service of the United States on various River and Harbor Improvements since 1878.

a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record: according to the Southern Historical Society Papers he was Acting Chief Engineer of the Army Northern Virginia in 1863, holding the rank of Lieut.‑Colonel.
