Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, Sep. 1, 1854, to July 1, 1858, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut., 8th Infantry, July 1, 1858. Served: in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1858‑59; and on frontier (Transferred to 7th Infantry, Nov. 30, 1858) duty on Utah Expedition, 1859‑60, — March to New Mexico, 1860, — Ft. Buchanan, N. M., 1860, — and Separ, N. M., 1860‑61. First Lieut., 14th Infantry, May 14, 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑65: in Operations in New Mexico, May, 1861, to May, 1862; on detached service, (Captain, 14th Infantry, Oct. 24, 1861) Sep., 1862, to Jan., 1863; on Recruiting service, Jan. to July, 1863; in the Rapidan Campaign (Army of the Potomac), Aug. to Dec., 1863, being engaged in Operations at Mine Run, Nov. 26 to Dec. 3, 1863; at Springfield, Ill., on temporary duty with drafted men, Feb. 14 to Apr. 28, 1864; in command of 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, before Petersburg, Va., July‑Aug., 1864; on sick leave of absence, Aug. 21 to Nov. 10, 1864; on Recruiting service, Nov. 10, 1864, to Jan. 31, 1865; and sick in hospital, Jan. 31 to May 6, 1865. Resigned, May 6, 1865. Civil History. — Unknown. Military History. — Re-appointed in the U. S. Army with the rank of First Lieut., 41st Infantry, Mar. 7, 1867. Served: joining regiment, July‑Aug., 1867; and in garrison at New Orleans, La., to Sep. 20, 1867. Died Sep. 20, 1867, at New Orleans, La.: Aged 31. |
