Bryan Morel Thomas: Born May 8, 1836, Milledgeville, GA. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1854, to July 1, 1858, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Infantry, July 1, 1858. Served: in garrison at Columbus, 1858‑59; on frontier duty conducting Recruits to Utah, 1859, — Utah Expedition, 1859‑60, — (Second Lieut., 5th Infantry, Jan. 19, 1859) March to New Mexico, 1860, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1860, — Navajo Expedition, 1860, — and Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1860‑61; and on leave of absence, 1861. Resigned, Apr. 6, 1861. Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.a Civil History. — Cotton Planter, Dooly County, Ga., 1866‑81. School Teacher, Dalton, Ga., since 1881. Vol. IV Civil History. — Superintendent of Public Schools, in Dalton, Ga., Feb., 1890, to –––––. Vol. V Civil History. — Unknown. Died July 16, 1905, at Dalton, Ga.: Aged 69. Buried, West Hill Cemetery, Dalton, GA. See Annual Association of Graduates, U. S. M. A., 1905, for an obituary notice, with a portrait. |
