Born Owingsville, KY. Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1853, to July 1, 1858, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Infantry, July 1, 1858. Served: in garrison at Ft. Columbus, N. Y., 1858‑59; and on frontier (Second Lieut., 7th Infantry, Apr. 23, 1859) duty on Utah Expedition, 1859‑60, — on March to New Mexico, 1860, — and at Ft. Buchanan, N. M., 1860‑61. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑62: in Operations (First Lieut., 16th Infantry, May 14, 1861) in New Mexico, May, 1861, to Feb., 1862, being engaged in the (Captain, 16th Infantry, Oct. 24, 1861) Battle of Valverde, Feb. 21, 1862. Killed, Feb. 21, 1862, at the Battle of Valverde, N. M.: Aged 26. Buried, Santa Fe National Cemetery (?), Santa Fe, NM. |
