Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑62, in Operations in New Mexico, 1861‑62, being engaged in the Battle of Valverde, (First Lieut., 14th Infantry, May 14, 1861) (Captain, 14th Infantry, Oct. 24, 1861)
