Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1854, to July 1, 1860, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to

Bvt. Second Lieut., Mounted Rifle­men, July 1, 1860.

Served: at the Cavalry School for Practice, Carlisle, Pa., 1860‑61; on frontier duty at Ft. Craig, N. M., 1861; and on leave of absence, 1861.

Dropped, July 13, 1861, "Having Overstayed his Leave of Absence, and Failed to Report to the Adjutant-General."

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861‑66 against the United States.​a

Died Mar. 10, 1862, at Yadkinsville, N. C.: Aged 25.


Thayer's Note:

a As with other Confederate officers, Cullum's Register omits his war record. It was brief, obviously, and must have been low‑key: I've been unable to find any trace of it other than a bare confirmation in Southern Historical Society Papers that he did in fact serve the Confederate cause. If you have better information, please drop me an e‑mail, of course.
